Suspect charged in 2 Metro Vancouver homicides

Police accidental charges have been approved against a man suspected successful 2 homicides successful Metro Vancouver.

Nahom Gizaw, 21, has been charged with 2 counts of second-degree murder and remains successful custody, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) said Friday. 

Maanav Kinkar, 18, was recovered dead at Surrey's Hazelnut Meadows Park connected May 26, 2022.

On March 3, 2023, 22-year-old Caleb Morin, was fatally stabbed astatine a residence adjacent Boundary Road and East 45th Avenue successful Vancouver.

Vancouver constabulary said the 2 victims "had nary connection," but investigators managed to nexus a fishy to some cases.

Homicide detectives arrested Gizaw Thursday adjacent East 29th Avenue and Rupert Street pursuing a two-year probe by Vancouver constabulary and the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), according to a VPD statement. 

"Our teams worked diligently and successful adjacent concern to lick these crimes and supply closure to the victims' families and our communities," VPD Const. Tania Visintin said successful the statement.

"While these homicides were not connected, the co-operation betwixt our agencies led to the grounds we needed to marque this arrest."
