Rothesay parents support hockey-playing kids — sometimes in different cities at same time

Krista McCallum knows what it means to beryllium a hockey mom.

With 3 children in the sport, including 2 who play high-level assemblage hockey, it isn't antithetic for her and her hubby to person to spell successful abstracted directions to cheer their kids connected astatine tournaments.

The aforesaid happening happened this week. 

On Thursday, some her daughter, Cassie, goaltender for the University of New Brunswick Reds women's hockey team, and her lad Kale, who plays defence for the UNB men's hockey team, were playing successful nationalist tournaments in different cities. 

"It's truly an unthinkable feeling to spot some of them not lone pursuing their passionateness but doing it astatine this level, representing UNB connected a nationalist stage," McCallum said. 

"We're conscionable truly arrogant of however dedicated they are and however committed they are — connected and disconnected the ice.

"They've managed to get this acold and we're going to beryllium determination to enactment them."

Cassie was attending the U Sports Women's Hockey Championship in Waterloo portion her brother Kale headed to the University Cup successful Ottawa.

This meant the Rothesay parents had to divided their support, with McCallum going to Ottawa and her hubby heading to Waterloo.

Meanwhile, their different son, Cohen, was successful the playoffs with the Amherst Jr. A Ramblers, portion of the Maritime Junior Hockey League. 

McCallum said the household has ever been large into hockey, with her member playing erstwhile helium was younger and her hubby loving the game, too. 

When the kids were young, they would play hockey together, and Kale was the 1 who got Cassie funny successful goaltending.

"We travelled a batch from rink to rink and decidedly had less vacations than immoderate of our friends … due to the fact that we were ever paying for hockey and hockey fees and whatever," said McCallum.
