Fatal house fire under investigation in Sandy Lake First Nation in northwestern Ontario

Police are investigating a fatal location occurrence successful Sandy Lake First Nation successful northwestern Ontario.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) say they received a study astatine the First Nation's detachment Tuesday day astir a location occurrence adjacent the community's bluish shore.

When constabulary arrived connected scene, they recovered the location wholly engulfed successful flames.

Sandy Lake First Nation is simply a distant Oji-Cree community, located astir 225 kilometres northeast of Red Lake adjacent the Manitoba border. More than 2,600 radical unrecorded there.

"Community firefighters besides arrived connected country and worked to extinguish the blaze," NAPS said successful a quality merchandise issued Thursday afternoon.

Police accidental 2 radical escaped from the location and were transported to the nursing presumption for treatment. Their injuries are believed to beryllium non-life threatening. Meanwhile, a 3rd occupant of the location was unaccounted for the time the incidental occurred.

On Wednesday, quality remains were located astatine the scene.

"Investigators, with the assistance of the Coroner's Office, are present moving toward identifying the deceased," NAPS said.

The probe remains ongoing.
