Three heli-skiers were killed Monday aft an avalanche successful southeastern B.C. swept the men away, according to RCMP.

The RCMP said the avalanche occurred successful the colony of Kaslo, connected the eastbound broadside of Kootenay Lake, astir 1 p.m. PT.

"Two groups of skiers had conscionable finished skiing the vessel and were waiting successful a staging country beneath the histrion enactment of Clute Creek h2o shed. A transport chopper was nearing the radical erstwhile the aviator observed an avalanche and sounded the siren," the RCMP said successful a quality release.

One radical of skiers was capable to tally retired safely but the different radical of 4 men was swept distant into the histrion line, RCMP said.

Three of the men were recovered dead, according to RCMP — a 44-year-old Whistler man, a 45-year-old Idaho antheral and their 53-year-old usher from Kaslo.

A 4th man, a 40-year-old from Nelson, was critically injured, constabulary said. The BC Coroners Service is present investigating.
